Secret Service Protection
I was going to post on this, but my friend Paul did it so eloquently–and I am so lazy–that I decided to just quote his entry. His amazing blog, what you can see of it, can be found here. Paul is a libertarian-with-a-lowercase-”l”. He’s also an excellent writer and a very good friend of mine. (Which means, I hope, that he won’t mind me stealing his work.
)
I’m tired of the news reporting on this as if someone was intentionally aiming to slight George W. Bush. Yes, he will be the first former US President who will not receive lifetime Secret Service protection — his and Laura’s protection will only last ten years. But just so you know… the Former Presidents Act was passed in 1996 by a Republican Congress, and took effect beginning with the next newly elected president. Bill Clinton was first elected in 1993, so he and Hillary will have lifetime protection.
And this is someone who thinks the media is liberally biased…
Of course you can steal his work. In fact, it’s not stealing as you’re colleagues.
I don’t think Bush has made any enemies in the world AT ALL.
